On Friday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that India has consistently supported constructive, solution-oriented, and practical engagement with all parties involved to achieve a negotiated settlement.
During a media briefing, Jaiswal highlighted that Prime Minister Modi had expressed India’s readiness to contribute positively to peace efforts. He clarified that the initiation and conduct of peace talks are up to the conflicting parties. When asked if Zelenskyy had requested India to host a Peace Summit, Jaiswal affirmed India’s commitment to supporting any feasible and mutually acceptable solution, but stated it is premature to discuss specific details at this time.
Jaiswal also responded to remarks by President Zelenskyy about India’s approach, noting that Ukraine’s views are shared publicly while India will base its actions on bilateral discussions. Modi had told Zelenskyy that dialogue is essential for resolving the conflict and affirmed India’s readiness to actively pursue peace. Zelenskyy expressed confidence that India could influence the situation, recognizing India’s significant role and potential impact on halting the conflict.
Since the war began in 2022, India has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
MEA calls CNN’s India-Bangladesh flood report misleading
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has rejected a CNN report suggesting India’s involvement in recent floods in Bangladesh, calling it misleading and factually incorrect. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that the report inaccurately blames India for the floods, ignoring the facts provided by the Government of India and established data-sharing practices between the two countries. CNN’s report claimed that India released water from the Dumbur dam without warning, but India refutes this, citing heavy rainfall and a communication breakdown as the reasons for the lack of a warning. The floods have affected over 18 million people in Bangladesh, with significant damage reported.
