146 Indian students, comprising 75 women and 71 men, have been awarded Erasmus Mundus scholarships for the 2024 academic year. This makes India one of the leading recipients of these scholarships, which support a two-year Masters programme in Europe. The programme, jointly delivered by international consortiums of higher education institutions, has granted scholarships to 2603 students from 137 countries this year.

In 2024, the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Programme celebrates its 20th anniversary, highlighting its positive impact on students, universities, and countries beyond the European Union. Since its launch in 2004, over 2000 Indian students have benefitted from the programme, which has awarded more than 6000 scholarships to Indian students. These scholarships provide access to advanced education, research facilities, international exposure, and professional networks, enhancing career prospects.

The Delegation of the European Union to India hosted an event celebrating the scholarship recipients, underscoring the growing educational and cultural ties between the EU and India. Starting in September, the students will commence their studies in Europe, pursuing joint or double degrees across fields like sustainability, engineering, data science, and social sciences. The fully funded scholarships cover tuition fees, travel expenses, and living allowances.

Herve Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India, congratulated the winners, emphasizing India’s significant representation among Erasmus+ scholarship recipients and the enriching experience that awaits them in Europe.
