Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to transfer the investigation into the death of IIT-Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed to the CBI. Ahmed, originally from Tinsukia District in Assam, was found dead in his hostel room at IIT-Kharagpur over two years ago. The college administration initially reported it as a suicide, but Ahmed’s parents suspected foul play upon noticing injuries on his body.

Sarma’s letter to Banerjee mentioned Ahmed’s death on October 14, 2022. Following suspicions, Ahmed’s body was recently exhumed for a second autopsy as ordered by the Calcutta High Court. The latest forensic report revealed a knife wound on Ahmed’s right side of the neck and a gunshot wound on his upper left side.

The Assam CM emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for Ahmed’s death and any cover-up. He stressed that justice for Ahmed and solace for his grieving parents hinge on identifying the perpetrators.
