Opposition leader R. Ashoka criticized the Congress government for still being in deep slumber regarding the issue of drought relief. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office on Sunday, he asserted that money would be disbursed to the farmers as soon as it arrives.

Moments turned into hours, then days, while farmers endured the scorching heat of the sun. The state government engaged in different political maneuvers, neglecting the plight of the farmers. Ashoka accused the state government of being a merciless butcher, indifferent to the suffering of farmers. It’s lamentable that farmers are forced to sell their cattle to butchers due to lack of fodder.

However, he pointed out the absence of seriousness in addressing the farmers’ plight. Last monsoon and winter rains had ceased, exacerbating the situation. In such circumstances, Siddaramaiah’s actions resemble trying to extinguish a fire with gasoline. To add to the frustration, not a single penny has been disbursed thus far. Moreover, there were delays in declaring drought-affected areas, with drought relief being announced after three and a half months. Despite the central government releasing funds, they remain undistributed to the farmers due to an empty treasury. These funds are crucial for providing relief. The promised amount of Rs 2,000 has been pending for the past 2-3 months.MLAs CK Ramamurthy and Ravi Subrahmanya were also present at the press conference.
