The Srinagar candidate of the PDP made an appeal to the youth of Kashmir on Saturday, urging them to view the upcoming general elections as a referendum to express their dissatisfaction with the decisions made by the Centre since August 2019.

Waheed Parra, also the head of the PDP’s youth wing, emphasized the importance of conveying a message to New Delhi that the silence in Kashmir should not be interpreted as acceptance. He stressed that the elections should not be seen as anything less than a referendum, especially for the youth of Srinagar.

Parra highlighted the uncertainties faced by the youth post-August 2019, when Article 370 was revoked, altering the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and dividing it into Union Territories. He noted the concerns about security and identity among the youth and called on them to set a trend of expressing their apprehensions.

Parra emphasized the need for assurances from Parliament regarding the safeguarding of Kashmir’s identity and resources. He stated that the elections are not merely about winning or losing but about sending a strong message to New Delhi about the discontent and concerns of the people of Kashmir. Srinagar is scheduled to vote in the fourth phase on May 13.
