Severe drought has gripped various districts of Karnataka. There is a shortage of drinking water. Bangalore city itself is not getting proper drinking water.

If there is any kind of problem for the villagers including drinking water and fodder in any village of Kalaghatagi taluk which has been declared as drought prone, the village level officials should act on war footing, she said.

The DC observed Nirasagara and Benachi Lake and checked the water and fodder conditions.

She said that water is being supplied from private borewells to the villages that have drinking water problems, and 13 villages of 9 gram panchayats are being supplied with water through 27 private borewells.

She visited the Benachi lake which supplies water to Kalaghatagi town and told Kalaghatagi Town Panchayat Engineer Akkamahadevi Tadasa to ensure that there is no problem for the public.

Officials explained that under the 24×7 project, two high level overhead tanks have been tendered for construction, and once it is completed, water will be supplied to 17 wards of Kalaghatagi town every day.  The total capacity of the reservoir is 1.25 TMC and once fully filled it can supply water for 2 years. At present, there is 0.28 TMC water storage in the reservoir and has no problem till June-July, the water board officials informed the Deputy Commissioner.
