Gold Shop Owners Beware: Couple Arrested For Fake Payments

Must read

Byadarahalli police have arrested a couple for duping multiple gold shops with fake payments, sending shockwaves through Bengaluru’s jewelry market.

The arrested duo, identified as Nandan and Kalpita, have a history of swindling several shops using deceptive tactics. Their modus operandi involves purchasing gold jewelry worth substantial sums, ostensibly paying via UPI, but ensuring the money never reaches the shop owner’s account.

Their latest target was Paramesh Jewellers in Gollarahatti on Magadi Road, where they purchased ornaments worth Rs 1.65 lakh. Using a mobile app for payment, they convinced the shop owner of completing the transaction. However, upon verification later, the money was nowhere to be found.

Alerted by the jeweler, Byadarahalli police sprang into action, tracking down the culprits with the help of CCTV footage. The couple had pawned the stolen gold for Rs 1.30 lakh before attempting to flee. Nandan even made offerings at a temple using the ill-gotten gains.

The police have placed the accused under five-day custody for further interrogation, shedding light on their elaborate scheme to defraud unsuspecting gold merchants.
