Miscreants attempted to chop off the tail of tamed elephant Bhanumathi   of Sakrebailu camp.  The elephant is pregnant and can give birth anytime.

The elephants are released into the forest every afternoon. The elephant is brought to the camp the next morning. This is the daily task here. When the staff went to see the Bhanumathi elephant in the morning, they  found blood lying on the way. When the staff came to know that the cub might have been hatched, they found blood in its tail. When they got closer, found that the elephant’s tail was almost broken. The miscreants are said to have cut off the tail with a sharp weapon about 2 inches deep. The staff immediately brought the elephant to the camp and informed Dr Vinay, who  gave seven stitches to the elephant’s tail and treated it properly.

Prasanna Patgar, Deputy Conservator of Forests  said, it has come to light that a pregnant elephant has cut the tail of Bhanumathi. An Enquiry Committee headed by the ACF has been formed to find out who did this to the elephant’s tail. I have instructed them to submit a report within a week to find out if anyone inside tried to cut the elephant’s tail, whether outsiders came and tried or if the tail hit the bamboo tip, he said.
