Union Minister Smriti Irani is planning to visit her parliamentary constituency of Amethi to hold a ‘Jan Samvad’ (public dialogue) program, aiming to strengthen her electoral presence in the area before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This move comes in response to claims by the newly appointed state chief of the Congress, Ajay Rai, that Rahul Gandhi will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Amethi. The BJP is taking measures to maintain its presence and counter the Congress’s efforts to regain ground in the constituency. Amethi’s Lok Sabha seat comprises five assembly segments, and Irani has already conducted ‘Jan Samvad’ programs in some of these segments. The program aims to facilitate interaction between the MP, the public, and district officials to address people’s concerns and issues. This proactive approach allows for direct engagement with the community and the timely resolution of problems. The political dynamics in Amethi have been interesting, with shifts in representation between the BJP and the Congress over the years. Irani won the seat from Rahul Gandhi in 2019, and both parties are actively working to secure their positions in the region ahead of the upcoming elections.
