The DMK youth wing organized a one-day hunger strike across all district headquarters in the state to demand the abolition of the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS admissions. Prominent DMK leaders including S. Duraimurugan, Ma Subramanian, PK Sekar Babu, Dayanidhi Maran, and Chennai Mayor R. Priya, along with MPs and MLAs, joined Udayanidhi Stalin in the protest at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai. A tribute to students who tragically took their lives due to their inability to clear the NEET exam was displayed on the main stage. S.Duraimurugan, a senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Water Works, expressed the party’s long-standing opposition to NEET, stating, NEET is against the welfare of students. He mentioned that the Tamil Nadu assembly had passed resolutions against NEET during the tenure of both the previous AIADMK government and the current DMK government. Duraimurugan also informed that an anti-NEET bill is currently awaiting approval from the President of India. The DMK has been actively advocating for the scrapping of NEET, citing concerns about its impact on students’ well-being and access to education.
