MANGALURU
District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the government is committed to crack down hard on the drug peddling networks not only in the district, but across the state. He told media persons that the government wants to make the state free from the clutches of drug menace and Home Minister G Parameshwara had already discussed it during his visit to the city.
I have also held a meeting and directed Police to act tough against drug peddlers. Many drug peddlers were arrested, and drugs have been seized in Dakshina Kannada Police and Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate limits in the last two months. Along with drives against drugs, awareness programmes are also being conducted in educational institutions, the Minister said.
On instances of moral policing incidents being reported even after the setting up of an anti-communal wing of the police, Rao said those who were behind the incidents have been arrested and strict action is taken in each case. We will not allow anyone to take law into their hands and create fear in society. I appeal to people to inform Police or me directly if they come across any such illegal activities. We will put an end to the menace of moral policing in the state and thereby maintain peace in the society, he said, adding that action will be taken against those who spread hatred through malicious and fake messages on social media.
On allegations of BJP MLAs regarding violation of protocol, the Minister said steps have been taken to ensure that there should be no violation of protocol in government programmes. The Deputy Ccommissioner has already issued directions and there will be no scope for such violations in future, he said.
