Karur Stampede: Tamil Nadu to Frame Rules for Public Events, Says CM Stalin

Stalin vows guidelines after Karur tragedy, urges restraint on social media and political unity.

Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday announced that the State will frame comprehensive rules and guidelines for public events organised by political parties and other groups, following the devastating stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur that claimed 41 lives.

In a video message posted on social media, Stalin said the government would await the report of the Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission of Inquiry before consulting all parties to finalise the regulations. “It is our collective duty to frame rules to prevent such incidents. I assure you these will be implemented after the Commission submits its findings,” he said.

Stalin appealed to the public to refrain from spreading rumours or malicious posts about the tragedy. “No political leader wishes harm to their own cadre or the public. Regardless of party, the deceased are all Tamils,” he stressed.

Calling the incident an “unprecedented tragedy,” Stalin said human lives must rise above political differences. He urged leaders and citizens to set aside ideological divides and work for public welfare.

The Chief Minister confirmed a solatium of ₹10 lakh for each victim’s family and assured full medical care for the injured. Recalling his hospital visit in Karur, Stalin said the grief remained heavy on his heart and vowed that the government would take every step to ensure such a disaster never recurs.
