District Collector G. Prabhu issued a stern warning to taluk-level officials on Monday, ordering show-cause notices and disciplinary action against officers who fail to conduct regular grievance redressal meetings for persons with disabilities.
Presiding over a district-level grievance review at Sir M. Visveswaraiah Hall, Prabhu asserted that persons with disabilities should not be forced to travel to district headquarters for routine administrative relief. He insisted that local problems must be resolved promptly at the taluk level itself, guaranteeing that eligible individuals receive sanctioned government welfare benefits and essential support services without delay.
Prabhu declared wheelchair ramps and lifts mandatory across all government offices and public hospitals. He directed welfare officers and field coordinators to identify buildings lacking accessibility infrastructure and instructed executive engineers to submit structural compliance confirmations. To foster economic independence, Prabhu directed employment officers to organize a dedicated district job fair within the next month, ensuring customized employment opportunities for differently abled candidates.
Addressing documentation hurdles, the Collector instructed food inspectors to issue alternative certificates whenever fingerprint authentication fails during national identity card enrolment or updates, ensuring no eligible applicant is denied welfare access. He called for an awareness drive to enroll twenty-two thousand disabled students in official scholarship schemes, proposed regular mobile clinic health check-ups, and urged the introduction of accessible buses.
Furthermore, Prabhu mandated the utilization of five percent of local tax revenues to distribute assistive equipment to nearly two thousand beneficiaries. He directed officials to identify land for a modern rehabilitation center and scheduled a coordination meeting with local bank managers to resolve delays in disbursing subsidized loans. Prabhu warned that bureaucratic negligence will be escalated directly to the District In-charge Minister for strict governmental intervention.
