The State government is reworking the proposed Indira Food Kit scheme after cancelling its earlier tender process under Anna Bhagya. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rizwan Arshad said the revised programme is expected to be implemented within about 45 days. The department’s assessment, including a survey among women beneficiaries, indicated a preference for better-quality and varied food items rather than relying mainly on rice. The government is examining the kit’s contents and supply chain and may procure commodities through district-level tenders instead of a single State-level process. The proposed kit is expected to contain tur dal, sugar, salt and cooking oil. Until the revised scheme is implemented, eligible BPL beneficiaries are expected to continue receiving an additional 5 kg of rice under Anna Bhagya.
