India off-spin bowling all-rounder Deepti Sharma has rejected suggestions that her side’s dominant record against Pakistan gives them an automatic psychological advantage ahead of their 2026 Women’s Asia Cup Group A clash in Dubai on Saturday.
India have won 14 of their 17 T20I meetings against Pakistan, including a 64-run victory at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup in Birmingham. Deepti took five wickets in that match, while Smriti Mandhana scored 68.
Despite the overwhelming head-to-head record, Deepti insisted India’s approach remains focused on playing better cricket rather than relying on past results.
“There is no such advantage. Whatever we have won against them, whether it is the Asia Cup or any other matches, we are always one step ahead of them and that’s it,” she said.
India have already qualified for the semifinals after convincing victories over Thailand and Hong Kong China. Deepti said maintaining momentum and producing balanced team performances remain the priority.
India’s batting unit enters the contest after Mandhana struck a record-breaking century against Hong Kong China. Pakistan, meanwhile, are still seeking greater consistency from their top order despite beating Thailand.
Deepti also praised young spinners N Sree Charani and Prema Rawat, highlighting their ability to create breakthroughs. Charani, she noted, has been exceptional over the past year and currently tops the rankings.
With selection decisions left to the management, Deepti said India want to remain compact in both departments and concentrate on their strengths rather than Pakistan’s reputation.
