Pierre Gasly has lost his Monaco Grand Prix podium for a second time after the FIA International Court of Appeal reinstated two five-second penalties imposed on the Alpine driver.
The ruling means Gasly is reclassified seventh, while Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar regains third place. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri moves to fourth, with Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad promoted to fifth and sixth respectively.
Gasly had crossed the finish line third at the June 7 Monaco race, won by Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton second. However, two unserved five-second penalties for pit-lane speeding initially dropped Gasly to seventh and handed Hadjar the podium position.
Alpine subsequently exercised its Right to Review, and on June 12 the stewards cancelled the penalties, restoring Gasly to third. Red Bull and McLaren then appealed that decision to the FIA International Court of Appeal, which ruled in their favour and reinstated the original penalties.
The FIA said it would now review the methodology and operation of timing system, along with regulations and judicial procedures, including the right of review and appeals.
Alpine expressed disappointment, saying it felt “unjustly punished” and maintained that Gasly’s car never exceeded the pit-lane speed limit. The team acknowledged the court’s decision while continuing to disagree with the outcome.
The FIA defended its stewards, stressing their independence and noting that the International Court of Appeal has access to additional legal counsel, arguments and evidence. It said the decision would contribute to review and improvement of the governing process.
