Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar directed officials to ensure that the 2026 Ganesh festival is celebrated peacefully and in an environmentally friendly manner.
He ordered strict action against the production, storage, sale and disposal of Ganesh idols made from Plaster of Paris and chemical colours.
Speaking at a meeting at the District Collector’s office, Kumar said protecting the environment and keeping water bodies clean was everyone’s responsibility. He urged officials to create widespread awareness about using natural clay idols. Regular inspections should be conducted, and violators should face legal action.
Kumar directed authorities to prevent idol immersion in lakes and canals and identify suitable immersion points. Temporary water tanks, lighting and other facilities should be arranged where required. Safety measures must also be strengthened at locations expected to witness large gatherings.
Ganeshotsava committees installing idols in public places must obtain permission from concerned departments. A single-window system has been arranged to simplify the approval process. Organisers conducting processions must also submit route maps in advance and secure permission to avoid traffic problems and protect public safety. The Deputy Commissioner further ordered that DJs should not be used and noise pollution rules must be followed.
Food safety officers were instructed to inspect places where prasad is prepared and distributed, ensuring hygiene and food safety standards. Organisers were also asked to avoid single-use plastic and choose environmentally friendly alternatives. Kumar appealed to festival committees, idol makers, traders and the public to cooperate with the administration. He said careful planning and responsible participation would help ensure a clean, safe and peaceful Ganesh festival across Mandya district. District Regional Environment Officer B.P. Geeta, tehsildars and officials from all taluks attended the meeting.
Mandya DC orders faster PM-RAHAT emergency treatment
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar directed health officials and hospitals to ensure cashless emergency treatment up to Rs.1.5 lakh for eligible road accident victims under the PM-RAHAT scheme. He said saving lives must remain the first priority, and treatment should begin immediately without waiting for documents or records during emergencies. Private hospitals were instructed to follow scheme guidelines, avoid delays or fee demands, maintain records properly, and update required information online. The Health Department must regularly inspect implementation and create awareness among doctors and staff. Dr. Kumar urged government and private hospitals to coordinate so victims receive timely care.
Police Constable exam to follow strict security rules
The Police Constable recruitment written examination will be held on September 6 at eight centres, with 3,289 candidates appearing. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar directed officials to conduct the examination transparently and without lapses. The exam will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon. CCTV cameras, police security, medical teams and mobile jammers will be deployed at centres. Question papers will be transported securely using GPS-enabled vehicles and police escorts. Candidates must carry their hall tickets and valid identity cards. Electronic devices and prohibited items are banned. QR-based attendance will be recorded, while security checks will be conducted carefully to ensure fairness.
