Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh has directed tahsildars to convene task force committee meetings in every taluk under the leadership of local legislators and take immediate steps to resolve drinking water problems in villages.
Chairing a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority at his office on Monday, Venkatesh said authorities must respond promptly to water shortages, particularly in villages where the issue has been highlighted in the media.
He referred to reports of drinking water shortages in Dindavara and Ganjalagunte villages of Hiriyur taluk and Kolakalu village of Holalkere taluk. Residents of some villages in Hiriyur have reportedly threatened to boycott the upcoming elections over the issue. The DC instructed officials to immediately arrange borewells and, as an interim measure, hire private borewells to ensure water supply.
Venkatesh further ordered all tahsildar offices and taluk panchayats to establish Prajaseva branches for speedy disposal of public grievances. Applications must be numbered, digitised and forwarded to the concerned departments. Officials were instructed to review applications weekly and upload disposal details on the portal.
He warned that disciplinary action would be taken against officials who neglect public grievances and directed all department officials to remain available at their headquarters and personally hear complaints.
A Janaspandana programme will be held in Hiriyur on September 3 under the chairmanship of the district in-charge minister. Officials were asked to make arrangements, establish grievance counters and display information on government schemes.
Additional Deputy Commissioner B.T. Kumaraswamy said Janaspandana meetings would be held at taluk and hobli levels according to the government schedule. Several senior district officials attended the meeting.
