The Bidar South unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protest in the city on Thursday, demanding the resignation of Minister B. Nagendra over the alleged ₹187 crore irregularities in the Valmiki Corporation.
BJP leaders, office-bearers and workers participated in the demonstration near the office of the district in-charge minister and raised slogans against the state government.
Addressing the protesters, BJP district president Somnath Patil described the alleged financial irregularities as a serious issue involving public money. He questioned the government’s decision to reinstate Nagendra after his earlier resignation in connection with the controversy. Patil said the government should explain its position clearly and ensure transparency in the administration.
Patil demanded a comprehensive investigation into the alleged misuse of funds and called for the details of financial transactions to be made public. He said anyone found responsible should face legal action, regardless of their position. He also urged Nagendra to accept moral responsibility and resign from the ministerial post.
The BJP leader said the government’s claims of taking strong action against corruption would be questioned if serious allegations were not addressed properly. He stressed that protecting taxpayers’ money should be a priority and that any misused public funds should be recovered after due investigation.
BJP Bidar South Mandal president Gurunath Rajgir said the party would continue its democratic campaign against corruption and alleged irregularities. He said the movement would focus on protecting public money and the interests of citizens. BJP mandal office-bearers, leaders of various party fronts, elected representatives and workers attended the protest. The demonstrators reiterated their demand for accountability and Nagendra’s resignation.
