District In-charge Minister T. Raghumurthy warned officials that disciplinary action would follow if they neglected their duties or delayed public services.
Speaking at the District Disaster Management Meeting at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on Tuesday, he asked officials to work responsibly and solve public problems without delay.
Raghumurthy said officials should conduct field inspections instead of relying only on reports submitted during meetings. He directed taluk-level officers to remain at their headquarters during droughts and other emergencies. Officials should not leave without permission, he said, adding that negligence, financial irregularities and indifference towards people would not be tolerated.
He announced that a public relations meeting would be held to hear people’s problems and provide quick solutions. Applications concerning roads, irrigation, land records and other departments would be examined, with concerned officials responsible for resolving them without excuses.
Raghumurthy said Chitradurga was facing a serious rainfall shortage and suggested recommendations for sowing failure and interim crop compensation. He also urged officials to ensure crop insurance benefits reached farmers, horticulture growers and silk producers. Farmers can register millet crops until August 14, and more farmers were encouraged to enrol.
Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh said proposals had been submitted for insurance and sowing-failure compensation covering 1.18 lakh hectares. He said interim relief would also be sought. Agriculture and horticulture officials said about 2.43 lakh farmers were covered by crop insurance schemes, benefiting nearly 90% of farmers. Raghumurthy said eligible farmers should receive support and urged officials to ensure relief reached them without delay.
