Mysuru’s Preeth Appaiah, who recently drew attention by winning two gold medals with a national record in the 10-metre air rifle category at the 14th Karnataka State Shooting Competition and Championship-2026, is now preparing to scale Mount Kosciuszko, the highest mountain in Australia.
Mysuru City and District Brahmin Association president D.T. Prakash, said while participating in an event organised by the KMPK Trust and Cauvery Kodava Okkoota in front of the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple in the city on Monday.
T. Prakash said Bannimantap resident Preeth Appaiah had proved that age is merely a number in sports and had enhanced the reputation of Mysuru at the State and national levels through both shooting and mountaineering.
KMPK Trust president Vikram Iyengar said Preeth had earlier successfully scaled Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, in 2023 and Mount Elbrus in Russia in 2024, where he hoisted the Indian Tricolour. She is now pursuing the ‘Seven Summits’ goal of climbing the highest mountains on all seven continents. Mount Kosciuszko, located in Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia, stands at an altitude of 2,228 metres (7,310 feet) above sea level.
Preeth Appaiah is preparing to scale the peak and hoist the national flag on Independence Day, bringing pride to the country and Mysuru.

Rajesh, Vidwan Krishnamurthy, Vijayalakshmi Iyengar, Sukrut, Cauvery Kodava Okkoota president Ajjikanda Chittiyappa, vice-president Atrangada Praveen, committee members Koter Kushalappa and Nerapanada Sannu Mandappa, and Mysuru Kodava Sangha vice-president Machimanda Nanayya were present.
