Veteran Jesuit scholar Fr Ravi Kamath passes away

Fr Ravi Santhosh Kamath SJ, respected Jesuit priest, theologian, educator, and spiritual mentor, passed away in Mangaluru on Friday at the age of 86. He had been suffering from age-related health issues and breathed his last at Father Muller Medical College Hospital. Born Ronald Pereira in Bajpe in 1939, he was known for his exceptional scholarship and mastery of several languages, including Latin, French, German, Spanish, Kannada, Tulu, and Hindi. After joining the Jesuit Seminary in 1958, he later earned a doctorate in Systematic Theology from Rome’s Gregorian University. Fr Kamath served nearly 36 years as theology professor at Jeppu Seminary and remained deeply admired for his pastoral care, humility, humour, and lifelong commitment to education and spiritual guidance.
