South African captain Laura Wolvaardt leads an exciting race for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for April. Joining her on the shortlist are Sri Lankan opener Imesha Dulani and Brazilian sensation Laura Cardosa, following a month of record-shattering performances across the globe.
Wolvaardt has been in the form of her life, dominating both New Zealand and India. She averaged 69 in ODIs before moving to the T20I series against India, where she amassed 330 runs at a staggering strike rate of 168. Her highlight was a breathtaking 115 off just 53 balls, helping South Africa chase down a massive target of 192 with ease.
Sri Lanka’s Imesha Dulani also earned her spot after a stellar tour of Bangladesh. Named Player of the Series in the ODIs, she provided consistent starts and followed up with a sharp 55 in the T20I leg. Her contributions were vital in securing series victories for the visitors, proving her status as a rising star in Asian cricket.
The most historic entry comes from Brazil’s Laura Cardosa. During a phenomenal run in April, Cardosa became the first player in T20I history to take nine wickets in a single match, finishing with unbelievable figures of 9 for 4 against Lesotho. In addition to her 17 wickets during the month, she also scored over 200 runs. This nomination highlights the growing talent in emerging cricket nations as fans prepare to vote for their winner.
