HUBBALLI
The Hubli Electricity Supply Company, known as HESCOM, has shared some rare good news for local taxpayers. Officials announced that the company saved a staggering Rs 153.46 crore during the 2024-25 financial year and plans to give that money back to its customers.
HESCOM Chairman Syed Azimpeer S. Qadri explained that these massive savings were the result of smarter management in how the company purchases and supplies power. This efficient approach was carried out under the specific guidance of Energy Minister K.J. George. Following a directive from the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission, this surplus will be returned to the public to ease their financial burden.
The refund process is designed to be steady and fair. Starting in the 2026-27 period, customers will receive the money in 12 monthly installments. The amount each person gets back depends on how much power they used previously; the rate is set at 10 paise per unit based on 2024-25 consumption. Look for a specific entry on your monthly bill labeled as a “True-Up charge” to see your savings.
In addition to this refund, Chairman Qadri noted that the state continues to prioritize community welfare. He highlighted ongoing support for farmers through the Kusum B and C schemes, alongside the popular Gruha Jyothi program. The latter continues to provide relief to households by offering up to 200 units of electricity for free
