Farmers, workers face contaminated water issues

Yadgir

Farmers, hamali workers, and traders at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) yard in Yadgir have alleged that they are being forced to drink unclean and heated water due to poor maintenance of drinking water facilities. Workers said several water purification units inside the market yard are either non-functional or damaged. They also alleged that an old open well on the premises is in a neglected condition, with stagnant water mixed with garbage, making it unsafe for consumption. Despite this, water from a borewell is reportedly pumped into overhead tanks and supplied through taps, often without proper filtration. Many users complained that plastic storage tanks heat up in summer, resulting in hot water being supplied throughout the day. While APMC officials claimed that RO purified water is being provided, workers strongly denied the claim and said they are forced to buy drinking water from outside or cool tap water manually before use.
