MLA calls for unity after election victory in Davanagere

MLA promised housing for the poor, women’s college, hospital, and prioritised shelter homes and slum development projects

DAVANAGERE

Newly elected Congress MLA Samarth Shamanur has appealed for unity and development work in the constituency after the by-election result in Davanagere.

Speaking to the media, he said that even those who lost the election should leave aside differences and join hands for development. He added that his doors are always open to everyone and he is ready to serve people 24/7.

He said the election victory belongs to party workers and thanked voters for their support. He promised that development will be his main focus, especially housing, healthcare and basic facilities for citizens.

The MLA said efforts will be made to build new houses under government schemes and improve living conditions for the poor. He also said a women’s college will be sanctioned for the constituency, and a hospital is urgently needed in the area. He added that work on shelter homes and slum housing projects will also be prioritised.

He stressed that all election candidates must now work together for the progress of the constituency instead of political rivalry.

Meanwhile, defeated BJP candidate Srinivas Dasakariappa alleged irregularities during the election process and demanded an investigation into strongroom security and administrative conduct. He claimed there were issues in vote counting and accused officials of negligence.

SDPI candidate Afsar Kodlipet also raised concerns over alleged misuse of power and demanded better infrastructure, especially a hospital in Davanagere South. He urged the new MLA to take immediate steps for public healthcare improvements.

Kodlipet further said that Davanagere should receive proper development funds and warned that public issues must not be ignored after elections.

Despite allegations from opposition candidates, the new MLA said his focus will remain on development and cooperation. He called for peaceful political engagement and promised to work with all groups for the welfare of the people.

Local voters and party workers welcomed the appeal for unity, saying that development work should be prioritised over political differences in the coming years.
