Heat drives wild visitor indoors: A  7.5-foot Rat snake rescued

Mysuru:

The City of Mysuru witnessed yet another dramatic brush with the wild as a massive 7.5-foot rat snake was rescued from Kumbarakoppal on a sweltering day on Wednesday.

The daring operation was carried out by seasoned snake rescuer Shivakumar, who continues to be a lifeline for both reptiles and residents.

With temperatures soaring across the city, snakes are increasingly slithering into human habitats in search of relief. Cooler corners of homes—near gas cylinders, beneath washing machines, and under staircases—are turning into unexpected hideouts for these silent visitors.

According to Shivakumar, snakes typically enter homes for three reasons: in search of food, water, or to escape predators. They are not here to harm, but to survive. The residents must remain calm and avoid panic.

What makes this rescue even more remarkable is the milestone it represents. This was Shivakumar’s 19,500th snake rescue—a staggering testament to his commitment and courage.

As Mysuru heats up, encounters like these are becoming more frequent, serving as a reminder that the city is not just ours—but shared with nature, even in its most unexpected forms.
