Kalaburagi cultural festival celebrates tradition and art

The Rangayana Auditorium came alive with music and dance during the “Janapriya Samskrutika Sambhramotsava,” a vibrant festival showcasing the rich artistic heritage of the region. Organized by the Janapriya Cultural Arts Association in partnership with the Department of Kannada and Culture, the event drew a large crowd of art enthusiasts and local families. Inaugurating the festival, Jyoti Patil, BJP Mahila Morcha South Zone President, spoke about the healing power of the arts. She noted that cultural programs are more than just entertainment, they serve as a vital tool for relieving mental stress and fostering a sense of community well-being. Dr. Veena Patil, a well-known actress and folk practitioner, echoed these sentiments, urging students to balance their schoolwork with music and dance to build a more well-rounded personality.

Highlights of the Evening

The festival featured a diverse lineup of performances that kept the audience captivated:

  • Classical & Devotional: A stunning Bharatanatyam performance by Akshara Rajshekhar Ankal and soul-stirring Dasavani singing by Ashwini R. Mulge.
  • Folk & Local Traditions: Energetic folk songs by Saidappa Sappanagol and traditional Tatvapada (philosophical songs) by Dattaraj Kallashetti.
  • Student Talents: Students from the Janapriya Music and Dance School performed vachana recitals and classical dances, receiving standing ovations.

The event, presided over by Shantalingayya S. Mathapati, was praised for its role in keeping local traditions alive for the younger generation. As the Manasvi Dance Team took the stage for a final folk performance, the evening concluded with a strong message, culture and art are the backbone of a healthy, connected society.
