His remarks underscored the ruling alliance’s focus on stability, continuity, and social reform amid sharp criticism from the opposition. Addressing the Assembly, Vijay Kumar Choudhary highlighted the political developments following the 2020 Bihar elections, noting that the Bharatiya Janata Party, despite emerging as the numerically stronger party, chose to support Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. He described this move as a reflection of the maturity and unity within the National Democratic Alliance, emphasizing that the alliance has consistently prioritized collective leadership over individual ambitions.
Choudhary stated that the current support for Samrat Choudhary’s leadership follows the same principle, ensuring continuity and stability in governance. He added that the people of Bihar have placed their trust in the NDA for nearly two decades, and the emergence of a new generation of leaders marks a natural progression in the state’s political landscape.
A significant portion of his speech focused on Bihar’s liquor prohibition policy, introduced during Nitish Kumar’s tenure. Choudhary made it clear that the law is non-negotiable and will neither be repealed nor diluted. Instead, he asserted that enforcement would be strengthened further to ensure its effectiveness.
Defending the policy against opposition criticism, he argued that ongoing arrests and penalties against violators demonstrate that the law is functioning as intended. He described prohibition not merely as a legal framework but as a broader social reform initiative aimed at improving societal behavior and reducing the harmful effects of alcohol consumption.
The Deputy Chief Minister also took aim at Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, questioning his current stance on the prohibition law. Choudhary pointed out that Tejashwi Yadav had served as Deputy Chief Minister when the policy was implemented, suggesting that his present criticism reflects inconsistency in the opposition’s position.
Despite the government’s strong defence, the prohibition law continues to remain a contentious issue in Bihar politics, highlighting a key divide between the ruling alliance and the opposition.
