Sonali Shingate has highlighted the importance of scientific training and recovery methods as India’s women’s kabaddi probables undergo an intensive camp ahead of the upcoming Asian Games.
The high-performance camp, being held at the Inspire Institute of Sport and organised by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India along with Mashal Sports, has introduced a structured, science-backed approach to fitness and conditioning.
A key member of India’s gold medal-winning squad at the 2025 Kabaddi World Cup and a silver medallist at the 2018 Asian Games, Shingate said the focus on strength and conditioning marks a significant evolution in the team’s preparation. “The emphasis on structured training is new for many of us and is helping improve our overall performance,” she noted.
Shingate, who brings nearly a decade of experience to the squad, stressed that recovery is now being given equal importance alongside rigorous training sessions. “The sessions are intense, but recovery is managed very well. It allows our bodies to adapt quickly and stay match-ready,” she said.
The all-rounder also pointed out that in the past, limited attention to recovery and workload management often led to injuries. The current approach, she believes, will help players remain fitter for longer and deliver consistent performances at the highest level.
The camp, which began on March 27 and runs until April 2, has brought together a mix of seasoned internationals and emerging players. According to Shingate, this blend has created a highly competitive and motivating environment.
“Young players are pushing the seniors, and in turn we are pushing them back. That healthy competition is raising the level of the entire group,” she added.
Coming off a strong domestic season with Indian Railways, including a runner-up finish at the Senior National Championship, Shingate emphasised the importance of such camps in building a cohesive and well-prepared squad.
With the Asian Games on the horizon, India’s women’s kabaddi team appears to be embracing modern training methods, aiming to enhance performance and maintain its dominance on the international stage.
