Cold Wave Hits Bengaluru: Doctors Advise Precautions as Illnesses Rise

BENGALURU

Children and the elderly in Bengaluru have been increasingly falling ill over the past week due to dropping temperatures and cold winds. Doctors warn that the cold spell is expected to intensify in the coming days, potentially causing more health issues.

Cloudy afternoons and chilly mornings have prompted residents to wear sweaters, shawls, and warm clothing. Those venturing out for walks, especially during early mornings and evenings, are taking extra care to stay protected from the cold.

Hospitals, including KC General, report a gradual rise in patients with colds, headaches, and mild fevers. Children under four and elderly individuals are particularly affected. Concerned parents are bringing their young ones for treatment to prevent complications.

Health officials advise children, the elderly, and pregnant women to take precautions, such as wearing warm clothing, consuming hot and nutritious food, and avoiding unnecessary exposure to cold weather. They emphasise early medical consultation if symptoms like fever, cold, or cough appear, as minor colds can escalate into more serious illnesses such as flu, typhoid, hepatitis A, and pneumonia.

Doctors also caution about a potential increase in mosquito-borne diseases during this period. While most cases reported are minor, medical authorities urge vigilance, as serious illnesses may remain unreported if patients avoid hospitals.

With December and January expected to bring further cold waves, citizens are advised to maintain health vigilance, follow hygienic practices, and ensure proper care for vulnerable groups. Taking timely precautions can help reduce the risk of seasonal illnesses and safeguard the city’s health during the colder months.
