Rift in Congress began on Siddaramaiah’s first day in office: Bommai

Former CM Basavaraj Bommai claims split in Congress party began on Siddaramaiah’s first day as CM, citing rebel versus compromise factions

Mysuru

Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai has claimed that a major rift within the Congress party began on the very day Siddaramaiah assumed office. Speaking to the media in Mysuru, Bommai suggested that the current political scenario is essentially a battle between a “Rebel Siddaramaiah” and a “Compromise Siddaramaiah.”

He remarked that the kind of struggles he faced as Chief Minister for five years should not have arisen for Siddaramaiah. According to Bommai, if Siddaramaiah remains the rebel, he would never relinquish power under any circumstances, whereas the compromise Siddaramaiah would step aside when needed. Bommai indicated that this month will reveal how much of his firmness Siddaramaiah has retained. He reiterated that Siddaramaiah has always been a rebel with a political style rooted in assertiveness and rigidity, raising the question of whether his current pursuit of power has led to a change in his approach.

Addressing questions about commission allegations against the BJP government, Bommai stated that investigations have proven the claims to be false. He added that the extent of commissions within BJP departments is now well known. Bommai emphasized that the rift in Congress started the very day Siddaramaiah came to power and has only widened over time.

The former CM’s comments reflect growing tensions within Karnataka’s political landscape, highlighting ongoing struggles for influence within the Congress and contrasting leadership styles between the party’s past and present approaches.
