MLA ST Somashekar has strongly criticized the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Commissioner, saying he is not capable of managing the city’s development and is being influenced by contractors.
Speaking at Kodipalya Junction on Uttarahalli Main Road in Hemmigepura Ward of Yeshwantpur Assembly Constituency, he launched the work for installing the Cauvery drinking water pipeline.
Somashekar said the development of his constituency is a top priority, as residents have long awaited proper roads and infrastructure. While some areas have seen completion of drainage and white topping work, roads in Mallasandra remain in poor condition despite being heavily used by pedestrians and apartment residents. He pointed out that the Bhoomi Puja for the road was done more than a year ago, but contractor Idayat Ullah has not started the work. This delay has frustrated residents, who have written letters to various departments and even protested.
The MLA criticized the GBA Commissioner, Maheshwar Rao, for ignoring these complaints. “The Commissioner is only running after the Deputy Chief Minister and not doing his job,” Somashekar said. He urged Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar to ensure that officials focus on actual development instead of formalities and appearances.
Somashekar also warned that if the white topping work on Mallasandra Road does not start soon, he and other MLAs are prepared to hold a protest in front of the Commissioner’s office. Local leaders present at the event included former BBMP member Arya Srinivas, former Zilla Panchayat member Shivamadaya, Kengeri Block Congress President Mylasandra Nagaraj, and Hemmigepura Ward President Arun Kumar, among others.
He concluded by emphasizing that Bengaluru residents deserve timely action, proper roads, and basic facilities. Prompt completion of infrastructure projects, he said, would restore people’s trust and show that the city’s development is being taken seriously.
