‘These PGs were found running commercial activities in residential areas without meeting the standards required under the GBA Act, 2024’

The Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) has taken strict action against paying guest (PG) accommodations that were running without proper permissions and ignoring safety rules.
Commissioner DS Ramesh said the Health Department has been instructed to act against PGs operating illegally without trade licenses. A special campaign has also been launched to enforce these rules.
Under the guidance of Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, Health Officer Dr Savita and her team inspected several PGs. At least 14 of them, located in Mahadevapura and KR Puram assembly constituencies, were sealed. These PGs were found running commercial activities in residential areas without meeting the standards required under the GBA Act, 2024.
In Mahadevapura, the sealed PGs include S.V.K. PG and Vamshi Krishna PG in Pattandur Agrahara, Dwell Co-Living PG in Nagappa Reddy Layout, Royal Home Stays PG and Dream Land PG in Whitefield, Zolo Asmi Gents PG near Yashomati Hospital, and K.R. Gents PG in Marathahalli. In KR Puram, the sealed PGs include Sri S.G. Gents & Ladies PG in Horamavu, St. Maria Ladies PG in Dooravaninagar, S.L.V. Comforts Gents PG in Sharavathi Layout, Sri Ganesh Gents PG in Basavanapura, S.S.V. Tower PG in Mahadevapura, Bliss Co-Living PG in Sri Krishna Garden Layout, and V.D.S. Luxury PG for Ladies in Sathya Badavane.
The corporation also held a special trade license drive from November 10 to 15 across all 17 ward offices. During this time, 466 business owners received licenses on the same day after paying ₹25,52,800 through the Single Window System.
Officials said medical officers and health staff are continuing enforcement to stop illegal PGs and ensure faster, transparent services.
