Actor Vipin Sharma, known for his powerful performances, steps into a new and challenging role as Prime Minister Sudhakar Sriniwas Joshi in the latest season of Maharani on SonyLIV. Calling the opportunity a turning point, Sharma said he instantly knew the role would demand a different level of commitment.
When I read the script, I realised this season was going to be huge because it’s brilliantly written, said Sharma, who joins Huma Qureshi and Shweta Basu Prasad in the political drama’s fourth instalment.
Joining an already successful series came with pressure. I wanted to bring something new, not just fit in, he explained. To refine his craft, Sharma trained with an international coach using the Harold Guskin method — a Hollywood acting approach that teaches actors to internalize the script and take the text off the pages.
It wasn’t about memorising lines but living them, he said. It helped me rediscover my process. Despite his long career, Sharma believes every project is a lesson. We become our own clichés if we stop learning, he noted.
Playing a Prime Minister also changed his outlook. On set, I was treated with respect, and that made me understand dignity and grace, he reflected.
Apart from acting, Sharma is exploring writing and direction. His upcoming project is based on Advaita Vedanta, which he describes as a journey into self-realization and the belief that all life comes from one energy source.
