Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has expressed confidence ahead of India’s Test series against defending World Test Championship (WTC) winners South Africa, describing the upcoming matches as “crucial” for the new WTC cycle. The five-day series kicks off here on Friday, with India aiming to build on their recent performances.
Currently third in the WTC points table, India drew their challenging away series in England before securing a comprehensive home series win against the West Indies earlier in the cycle. South Africa, meanwhile, started their WTC defence with a 1-1 draw in an away series against Pakistan.
“This series is crucial for the new WTC cycle, especially since South Africa is the defending champion. While they drew 1-1 with Pakistan, we’re confident from our own good form. We created a positive environment, performed well in England, and won against the West Indies,” Siraj said in a conversation on JioStar.
Siraj emerged as India’s standout performer during the demanding five-match series in England, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps. He carried his momentum into the home series against the West Indies, claiming 10 wickets across two matches.
“Personally, I’m bowling with good rhythm and looking to make the most of it. Facing strong teams helps identify areas to improve, and I’m really excited for this challenge,” he added.
With India eager to close the gap on table-toppers, Siraj’s form and confidence could prove pivotal in challenging South Africa and setting the tone for the remainder of the WTC cycle.
