Tension has gripped Kenkere village in Arsikere taluk after the deaths of several residents allegedly due to the consumption of illicit liquor. Concerned villagers have demanded that the sale of such liquor be stopped immediately and that the liquor outlet operating on the outskirts of the village be permanently closed.
Over the past two months, five to six people have lost their lives, creating widespread panic and grief in the area. The deceased have been identified as Basavalingappa (55), Renukaiah (45) and Siddalingaiah (50) among others. Locals allege that illicit liquor is being sold openly, not just through unauthorized retail shops but also in grocery stores within the village.
Residents expressed grave concern over the easy availability of alcohol and its growing impact on the younger generation. Villagers Harish, Kumar, and Basavaraju said that young people are increasingly falling prey to alcohol addiction, which they fear could ruin their future and social stability.
The situation has sparked anger and fear across the community, with residents urging immediate government intervention. They called on police and excise officials to take strict legal action against those responsible for manufacturing and distributing illicit liquor.
The sale of this illegal liquor is playing with human lives. Authorities must act swiftly to prevent further tragedies, said a local resident.
The villagers have also appealed for regular inspections and stricter enforcement to eradicate the illegal trade, ensuring that no more lives are lost due to the consumption of toxic alcohol in the region.
