Hoax bomb threat at Israeli Consulate probed
Bengaluru
The Israeli Consulate in Bengaluru recently received a bomb threat, which police have confirmed as a hoax. The Karnataka Police on Saturday said they are investigating the matter. The consulate lodged a complaint on September 22.
According to the FIR, an email claiming “Six RDX IEDs planted in the Israel Consulate Bengaluru” was sent on September 19 at around 3:10 a.m. from cho_ramaswamy@hotmail.com to the consulate’s legal email ID. The email, signed as Thuglak Cho Ramaswamy, stated blasts would occur after Friday Islamic prayers.
The consulate noticed the email only on September 22 at 9 a.m. Cubbon Park Police registered the FIR under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including criminal intimidation and causing public mischief.
Police conducted a search and confirmed the threat was false. The FIR names an unknown person, and the probe is ongoing to track the IP address and identify the sender.
Earlier, on September 6, Airport Police had registered a case against an unknown person for sending a hoax email threatening to blow up Kempegowda International Airport. The FIR, filed after a complaint by Ruban Raj, Deputy Terminal Manager, charged the unknown sender under similar sections for rash acts endangering life and causing public mischief.
The Bengaluru Police continue to investigate both incidents to ensure security and identify those responsible for spreading false threats.
