Public relations and communication programs are being organized across various cities in the state to educate taxpayers, traders, and chartered accountants about income tax policy provisions and amendments, said Assistant Commissioner Pankaj Dwivedi of the Income Tax Department, Bengaluru Division.

He made these remarks after inaugurating a public relations program organized by the Income Tax Department on Thursday at the city’s Zilla Panchayat Hall.

All tasks related to tax payment can be performed online, and it is natural for taxpayers to have many questions during the process. The public relations program is designed to resolve such doubts and confusions. Traders, taxpayers, and chartered accountants can raise their queries and receive answers. Department officials will also explain new tax-related policies and regulations, said Assistant Commissioner Pankaj Dwivedi.

Ramamani, an Income Tax Department officer from Bengaluru, demonstrated various online tax payment methods during the program. She emphasized that tax is a citizen’s contribution to nation-building. Quoting the renowned economist Kautilya, she said, “Tax is the foundation of state education,” referencing his famous statement “Kosh Moola Danda”, which serves as the motto of the Income Tax Department.

Every citizen can file Steps 1 to 7 and revised income tax returns online using their PAN card number. Tax rebates will also be available on time, said Income Tax officer Ramamani.

She explained that there are two types of tax collection: direct and indirect. Citizens earning above the income threshold must pay direct tax, while indirect tax is levied on the transaction of goods and materials.

The event was attended by Davangere Chartered Accountants’ Association Vice President K. Madhu Prasad, Tax Practitioner Association President S. Govinda Reddy, Chartered Accountant Karthik, and Income Tax Department officers Subbaraju, M. Ajjanna, along with other chartered accountants and practitioners.
