Ravi Basrur Holds 24TB Unused Music for ‘KGF’, ‘Salaar’

Ravi Basrur, the well-known composer behind the blockbuster films KGF and Salaar, recently opened up about the massive effort that went into creating their music. He revealed that he had prepared nearly 18 versions of the KGF background score before the final selection was made. In fact, between KGF and Salaar, he has about 24 terabytes of unused music stored away.

Speaking about his collaboration with director Prashanth Neel, Basrur explained that the process was far from ordinary. Neel’s non-linear editing style often required him to experiment with different sounds, melodies, and moods until the right fit was achieved. According to Basrur, the director’s focus is always on melody, and his brief was simple yet challenging: the music should slowly haunt the audience.

The comparisons between KGF and Salaar were expected, but Basrur stressed that both films have distinct soundscapes. While KGF relied heavily on an epic orchestral sound and KGF 2 blended orchestral and hybrid elements, Salaar leaned completely on a hybrid musical style. This, he believes, gave it a unique identity.

Currently, Basrur has once again teamed up with Prashanth Neel for his upcoming project with Jr. NTR, tentatively titled NTRNEEL or Dragon. The film, rumored to star Rukmini Vasanth, is scheduled for a grand pan-India release on June 25, 2026.
