Fraudster caught selling fake gold bars

In a significant crackdown on fraudulent activities, Bengaluru city police arrested an individual within the Halasuru Gate Police Station limits for allegedly deceiving customers by promising to convert 21-carat gold ornaments into 24-carat gold bars. The accused had lured buyers with assurances of upgrading their gold to a higher purity, raising suspicions among vigilant authorities.

During the investigation, police seized a total of 305.420 grams of gold, consisting of two gold bars, along with a gold melting machine used in the process. The combined market value of the seized items is estimated at approximately ₹30 lakh. Officials said the equipment and gold were being used as part of an elaborate scheme to defraud unsuspecting buyers by misrepresenting the purity of gold.

The police have stated that the arrest follows a careful surveillance operation, highlighting the importance of alertness among citizens when dealing with gold transactions. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with fraud, cheating, and criminal breach of trust.

Bengaluru police officials have urged the public to verify the credibility of gold traders and avoid falling prey to unrealistic promises regarding gold conversion or purity upgrades. The accused is currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway to determine if there are additional accomplices involved in the scheme. The seizure and arrest demonstrate Bengaluru city police’s proactive approach in tackling financial fraud and protecting citizens from criminal exploitation, reinforcing trust in law enforcement agencies.
