The Indian women’s hockey team is ready to begin its Women’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign against Thailand today. This match will mark their first step in the tournament and help them set the rhythm for the coming days.
India has faced Thailand seven times before and has won all matches, conceding just one goal in total. Despite this strong record, captain Salima Tete stressed that the team will not underestimate their opponents. She said every match will be played with full effort as the tournament demands consistent performance.
India is placed in Pool B alongside Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. Their first game against Thailand will start at 12 pm IST on Friday, followed by a crucial clash against Japan the next day. The goal is to finish at the top of the pool and move into the Super 4 stage, bringing them closer to the title.
Chief coach Harendra Singh noted that the squad has a good mix of young talent and experienced players. Although some injuries have affected the team, he expressed confidence in the players’ ability to perform well. He explained that the opening match against Thailand will be an opportunity to test strategies, identify areas of improvement, and prepare for the tougher encounter against Japan.
India has a proud history in the Women’s Asia Cup, winning titles in 2004 and 2017. In the previous edition, the team secured third place. With determination and focus, the Indian players aim to improve on that result and chase their third continental crown.
