JD(S) lashes out at DK Shivakumar, dubbing him the “Father of Potholes” amid city’s rain-induced chaos.
The Janata Dal (Secular) on Tuesday criticized Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for his handling of Bengaluru’s civic infrastructure, blaming him for the city’s recurring issues during heavy rains.
Posting on X with the hashtag #FatherOfPotholes, JD(S) labeled Shivakumar the “so-called Father of Greater Bengaluru,” alleging he remains silent on waterlogging, potholes, garbage, and collapsing infrastructure to protect his aspirations for the Chief Minister’s post. The party accused him of prioritizing personal political ambitions over urgent civic responsibilities and suggested that Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala and Rahul Gandhi might need to intervene to address the city’s woes.
“Afraid that raising his voice might ruin his CM dreams, he has chosen silence while the city suffers. His power seems limited to bowing before the High Command,” the party statement read.
The criticism comes a day after Bengaluru experienced heavy rainfall on Monday evening, leaving several localities waterlogged. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and parts of Karnataka until Thursday, warning of further showers. JD(S)’s attack highlights growing frustration among opposition parties over civic mismanagement in the state capital, as citizens continue to face infrastructure failures despite repeated promises of improvement.
