Karnataka’s Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Dr. Sharanaprakash R. Patil, on Friday emphasized that skills, not degrees, will define the future of work. Speaking at the Kerala government’s Global Skill Summit, he urged students to embrace failure as the first step toward learning and innovation.
“Failure is not the end; it is a stepping stone to success. Governments, industry, and academia can build policies and institutions, but real change comes from young people who dare to dream differently, possess skills, and have the courage to act,” said Dr. Patil.
He highlighted that while degrees may open doors, skills keep them open. “Skills bring confidence, dignity, and independence. When combined with higher education, they create individuals who are not only employable but can also generate jobs for others,” he added. Kerala ministers Dr. R. Bindu, P. Rajeev, and M.B. Rajesh were present at the event.
Dr. Patil praised Kerala’s literacy achievements and progressive outlook, urging that education should go beyond exam preparation. “The future of work will be determined by adaptability, problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation. With digital technologies, AI, automation, green energy, and new business models rising, skills are the true currency of tomorrow,” he noted.
The summit drew over 2,000 participants, including global thought leaders, policymakers, industry experts, academic faculty, innovators, and students. It provided a platform to discuss skill development, entrepreneurship, and strategies to equip young people for emerging career opportunities in India and globally.
