Two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker added another feather to her career by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championship on Tuesday. Manu scored 219.7 in the eight-shooter final, finishing behind Korea’s Yang Jiin, who claimed silver with 241.6, and China’s Qianke Ma, who secured gold with 243.2.
In the earlier 60-shot qualification round, Manu secured her place in the final with a strong score of 583-18x, ranking third. Yang Jiin finished fifth with 581-16x, while Qianke Ma placed seventh at 579-15x, before both went on to shine in the medal rounds.
India has already made a strong start at the championship in Kazakhstan. On the opening day, the country bagged two golds and three silver medals. Kapil Bainsla grabbed the junior men’s air pistol gold, while India’s senior and junior men’s teams picked up silver medals.
Earlier, the trio of Anmol Jain, Saurabh Chaudhary and Aditya Malra opened India’s medal tally by clinching silver in the men’s 10m air pistol team event with a total of 1735-52x, finishing second to China’s Hu Kai, Changjie You and Yifan Zhang, who posted 1744-51x.
India also celebrated success in the youth category as Girish Gupta struck gold in the 10m air pistol event with 241.3, leading an Indian 1-2 finish ahead of 14-year-old Dev Pratap, who scored 238.6 for silver.
The senior squad features 35 shooters competing in 15 events, while 129 juniors are also part of the Shymkent meet.
