Bengaluru intensifies drive to fix potholes
Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to address the city’s pothole menace on a war footing. He stressed that pothole repair should be taken up urgently, especially during the ongoing monsoon season.
Speaking at a training workshop organized by the BBMP for engineers at Puttana Chetty Town Hall, Rao highlighted the challenges of filling potholes during heavy rains. He suggested that officials use cold mix and ecofix materials, which are better suited for wet conditions.
Officials were instructed to plan pothole repair works in their respective zones without delay and ensure timely completion. Rao emphasized that potholes should also be closed using jet patcher machines wherever necessary. He urged engineers to carry out the repairs as quickly as possible while adhering to proper procedures.
The Commissioner underlined that all pothole-filling works must comply with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). He directed the quality control department to carry out thorough inspections and ensure proper execution of the repairs. Zonal Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, and Chief Engineers were told to visit sites personally to monitor the progress and inspect the work.
Highlighting the need for accountability, Rao insisted that continuous monitoring of pothole-filling operations is essential to maintain road safety and public convenience. He stressed that poor quality work would not be tolerated and directed officials to complete the task in a systematic and transparent manner.
With these instructions, the BBMP aims to accelerate pothole repair across Bengaluru and minimize public inconvenience caused by deteriorating road conditions.
