Youth are a major force behind the overall development of the country, and the Union Government has implemented several schemes to provide them with greater opportunities in skill development, employment and entrepreneurship, said Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways V. Somanna.
Speaking after inaugurating the Rozgar Mela organised at the auditorium of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) here on Friday, he said appointment letters were being distributed simultaneously to more than 51,000 candidates across different parts of the country through the Rozgar Mela being conducted under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The programme, which provides young people with opportunities for government employment, is an indication of the priority being accorded to employment generation.
Somanna said that under the Skill India Mission and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, launched in 2015, crores of young people had been provided skill training and certification. The number of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the country had also increased significantly, providing greater opportunities for youth to acquire vocational training. The union government had laid emphasis on the PM-SETU scheme, with an allocation of ₹60,000 crore for the modernisation of around 1,000 ITIs, with the objective of providing modern technical training facilities.
The minister said those receiving appointment letters should not only work towards building better lives for themselves but also recognise their responsibility to contribute to the country’s progress. Employment should not be viewed merely as a means of personal livelihood but as a part of nation-building. Efforts were also being made to extend development opportunities to regions that had previously lagged behind and to families belonging to various social groups. The 51,000 youth receiving appointments through the Rozgar Mela and their families would gain greater economic and social security, he said. The progress of young people would also contribute to the development of their families.
New opportunities to youth
Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar said appointment letters were being distributed to around 51,000 candidates as part of the Rozgar Mela organised at various locations across the country.
He described the programme as an important platform providing new opportunities to the youth. Several changes had taken place in India since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the fields of economy, infrastructure, employment and public welfare. India was emerging as a major global economic power, while priority was being given to employment generation, he said.
Yaduveer said it was a significant achievement that around 25 crore people had moved out of multidimensional poverty over the past 12 years. Various initiatives, including Swachh Bharat, had also been implemented to improve public health, sanitation and living standards, he said.
He said efforts were also being made to showcase India’s cultural heritage, including Mysuru’s yoga tradition, at the global level. India’s heritage and culture were attracting increasing attention across the world, he added.
He called upon everyone to work together for the country’s development through employment generation, economic growth, public welfare and cultural advancement.
AIISH Director Pushpalatha, CGST Commissioner Ravindra Radha, newly appointed candidates and officials were present at the programme.
