The GI Oncology Summit 2026, organised on the theme ‘Changing Dynamics in GI Oncology’, brought together leading oncologists, gastroenterologists and surgical specialists to discuss emerging approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.
The summit was organised by ClearMedi Healthcare in association with GUT Club Mysore, Karnataka Chapter of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG) and Cancer Research and Statistic Foundation (CRSF) here on Saturday.
Dr KG Srinivas, Director of Oncology Service, Senior Consultant Medical Oncology and Dr Ramakrishna, Senior Consultant Medical Gastroenterologist, ClearMedi Hospitals, Mysuru and President of GUT Club Mysore said GI oncology was rapidly evolving, with significant advances in gastroenterology, radiology, radiation oncology, surgery and medical oncology.
He said developments in early diagnosis, advanced endoscopic procedures, precision medicine, targeted therapy and immunotherapy were transforming cancer care. “The objective of the Summit is to share these developments with doctors and create greater awareness about advanced treatment facilities available in Mysuru. Patients need not always travel to Bengaluru for specialised treatment,” experts said.
Anuj S Gupta, GCOO, ClearMedi Healthcare, said artificial intelligence, molecular diagnostics, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, advanced endoscopy and robotic surgery were increasingly becoming part of modern cancer care. He stressed the importance of technology, clinical expertise and multidisciplinary teamwork in improving patient outcomes. He also mentioned that GI oncology required coordinated efforts involving gastroenterologists, medical and surgical oncologists, radiation specialists, pathologists and radiologists.
The scientific sessions covered oesophageal, gastric, pancreatic, hepatobiliary and colorectal cancers. Experts discussed AI-assisted endoscopy, Narrow Band Imaging, chromoendoscopy, precision diagnosis, robotic surgery and newer systemic therapies. An international keynote was delivered by Dr Vasanth Siruvallur Murali of Natera, Dallas, on the clinical utility of circulating tumour DNA. Ravi Kumar Sanjeevanna, Regional Director, ClearMedi Healthcare, rendered vote of thanks.
