Mangaluru
Mangaluru will implement alternate-day water supply from May 4 after reduced inflow in the Netravati River led to falling levels at the Thumbe vented dam, the city’s main drinking water source. The Mangaluru City Corporation said rationing is a precautionary step to manage limited reserves until monsoon rainfall improves inflows. Under the new schedule, different city zones will receive water on alternating days, covering both southern and northern areas in a phased manner. Officials have set up helplines and requested residents to conserve water and avoid wastage. Authorities warned that if the dry conditions persist, stricter restrictions may follow, making public cooperation essential for equitable distribution across the city.
