Tension gripped Kuvempu University as students staged a protest against the Vice-Chancellor, alleging administrative apathy and failure to address long-pending grievances. A large number of students gathered in front of the VC’s office, raising slogans and demanding immediate action to resolve issues related to academics, basic facilities, and overall student welfare on campus.
The protest escalated when a section of demonstrators smeared ink on the name board of the Vice-Chancellor’s office, expressing their anger in a symbolic but controversial manner. The act quickly drew attention across the campus, with more students joining the agitation and strengthening demands for accountability from the university administration. The demonstration reflected growing dissatisfaction among students over unresolved concerns.
The situation turned tense for a while as emotions ran high and the protest gained momentum. University authorities responded by deploying security personnel around the administrative block to maintain order and prevent any escalation. Although no violence was reported, the charged atmosphere highlighted the seriousness of the students’ grievances.
Protesting students alleged that several issues affecting their academic progress and daily campus life had been repeatedly brought to the notice of authorities but remained unaddressed. They warned that if their demands were not considered promptly, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days. Established in 1987, Kuvempu University is a major institution serving students from the Malnad region. The incident underscores a widening gap between students and the university administration, raising concerns about communication and governance within the campus system.
